The weather was a wee bit disappointing for the middle of May. Algy sat glumly in his tree, riding the branches in the wind, and wondering whether it would ever get a chance to warm up before the autumn and winter closed in again.

Algy felt that it was time for some rest and relaxation after his adventures by the lochs. He found a pretty clump of cowslips flowering among a mass of soft dead grasses, and settled down comfortably beside them to catch up on his reading.

On St. George’s Day, Algy always takes special care of dragons. This year he watched over a water dragon which was struggling against the incoming tide in the big sea loch under the mountains.
[This dragon is the brother of the dragon which breathed fire into the sunset when Algy rode him through the sky on St. George’s Day last year.]

It was still surprisingly cold, but there was a beautiful blue sky and Algy was feeling very happy. Close to his special tree in his friends’ garden, he had discovered something wonderful – the very first wee blossoms of the West Highland spring!

The rain was persistent, and the ground was getting rather too soggy for sitting in comfort, so Algy flew up into a tall tree. Far below him, the loch shimmered in the diffuse silvery light, while the hills on the other side were shrouded in Scotch mist.

A little further up the glen, the burn flows much more rapidly over the stones. Algy just loves to sit and watch the water, listening to the gurgling, trickling sounds that it makes, and he just can’t resist dangling his feet in it …

Although the air was chilly, it was undoubtedly a beautiful day. High in the dazzling blue sky overhead, the skylarks were singing vigorously. Algy was uncertain of his ability to ascend into the heavens while he sang, but he felt sure that he could contribute to the exaltation from a safe perch in a tree – providing nobody came along the road to disturb (or hear) him!

Today Algy received a wonderful surprise in his Tumblr mail. He was so excited! No-one had ever made any kind of picture specially for him before, never mind a picture with him in it! He practised looking like his portrait …
He sends lots and lots of fluffy thanks to Hanna, his lovely new friend at monster-hugs who sent Algy his own little monster in this picture, specially for him to hug. Thank you, thank you, thank you xxx
Algy would also like to thank all his other new Tumblr friends, young and old, for following his Adventures and for “liking” them. Thank you all very much indeed! Algy sends you all fluffy hugs, and hopes that you will be kind to your own monsters and hug them frequently :)

Happy Easter!

The Easter Bunny brought Algy a very special Easter egg, and told him that he could keep on opening it for as long as he wanted to, providing that he put it back together again each time :)

Algy wishes all his friends everywhere a very Happy Easter, and hopes that you will all have a lovely, sunny, happy day xoxo

Algy heard a distinctive sound overhead so he immediately looked up at the sky. Some of his friends were leaving, which always made him feel rather sad. He bid them a fond farewell, and hoped that they would have a safe journey and return to see him when the days grew shorter again.

Algy felt in need of a more appreciative audience for his ditties, so he gathered some of the local residents together, and found a soft perch in a more prominent position than before. To his surprise, the goose responded much more enthusiastically when there were additional spectators present.

Fired with enthusiasm for his new project, Algy decided to give an impromptu performance of one of his ditties for the benefit of a goose who had wandered by. Algy felt that perhaps the goose was not a poetry lover, but he was so excited that he continued undeterred …

The wind was bitterly cold and dark clouds were gathering overhead, but Algy felt in need of some rest and relaxation. He settled himself on a mass of old honeysuckle stems for an afternoon of peaceful reading, but discovered that the wind had other ideas …
Although Algy is not entirely happy about cats, he does enjoy reading about them safely in a book. This is what he read:
Jellicle Cats are black and white,         Jellicle Cats are rather small;         Jellicle Cats are merry and bright,         And pleasant to hear when they caterwaul.         Jellicle Cats have cheerful faces,         Jellicle Cats have bright black eyes;         They like to practise their airs and graces         And wait for the Jellicle Moon to rise.
[Algy is reading The Song of the Jellicles from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot.]

St. Patrick’s Day 2013

image

Algy was sitting quietly by the burn on St. Patrick’s Day, when he experienced a strange phenomenon …

What motion of the sun or stream
          Or eyelid shot the gleam
          That pierced my body through?
What made me live like these that seem
          Self-born, born anew?

[Algy is quoting from W. B. Yeats’ poem Stream and Sun at Glendalough, with apologies to the great Irish poet for taking his words out of their proper context.]

Algy has made a special “Thank You” message for all his kind friends and followers, and especially for those who sent him congratulations on the occasion of his Anniversary.
[And his assistant struggled for hours with Tumblr’s GIF restrictions and then faced repeated image upload failures for photo posts: “Error Uploading Image”. Aaaarghhhh!.]
